The phrase was written under the image of a rattle snake and emblazoned on a yellow flag. This is known as the Gadsden flag and falls within the historical flags of America. What Does It Mean? The symbolism in the flag partnered by the image holds deep meaning. This tells people not to step on or take advantage of the Americans or they will strike. The use of the snake or more specifically the rattlesnake did not happen by chance.
The fact is that the eastern diamondback rattlesnake and the timber rattlesnake were both fairly abundant within the colonies. In a satirical article, Benjamin Franklin suggested that the Americas send rattlesnakes to Britain as a response to their sending of convicted criminals to the colonies. Development of the Flag The Gadsden flag was created by Christopher Gadsden who was an American statesman and general.
Currently, there are several variations of this flag but the message remains the same. Following are some of the minor changes that may be found for the Gadsden flag. The typeface can either be serif of sans-serif. The earliest versions of the flag show that the rattlesnake is facing to the left. However, some versions today show that the snake is facing the right.

I started this website about 11 years ago and it soon turned into a job. But, as of March 1st , it’s back to being a hobby! That means I will not have a chance to check or to answer my emails as I have in the past. Due to the new time constraints I will be forced to answer ONLY the questions that pertain directly to knife purchases or sales. If you have a knife or knives you would like to sell or if you are looking to buy a knife from me, please feel free to contact me, but Please Be Patient, it may be awhile before I get back to you.
Also, I am in the process of trying to write a book about Puma Knives, but it is a very slow and time consuming project, and the only way I can see to gain more time for the book is to stop answering all of the email questions about knives!

His earliest contributions were the waterproof matchbox and safety pocket axe. Marble made these items part-time until , when he built a sixty-four square foot building for his growing business. He carried me on his shoulders throughout his life in one way or another. He was a volunteer fireman, and an EMT which he undertook after his pipefitter retirement. He was a man of mirth and humor, held a curiosity about everything and sometimes a mischievous personality. If he was around it would not be a boring day. He accompanied me to many knife shows, and assisted us in managing the Blade Show for 13 years. His purchase of a few knives sparked my interest in the subject.

The Story No-one Wants to Hear. By Anonymous On April 13, my world changed completely. And it was all because of this knife. I used them while fishing, for carving sticks, fixing my bike and everything between when I was a kid.
It seems I was always had a use for one and so I always had a knife on me. But I also remember I had a survival knife not long after. And I wore that hollow handled survival knife strapped to my hip just about everywhere I went. As I got older the style knife I carried changed many times but it seemed like there was always a knife in my pocket or on my belt.

Once upon a time there was an old word, “jimp” that came from North England and Scotland, meaning neat, handsome, and slender in form. The early knife industry designated these machined cuts or cross-hatched patterns on the back of the spine of the knife to improve traction of the fingertips “jimping. Jimping may be machine cut by automated slitters, mills, or blades, but filework must be hand-cut. The word filework is a neologism, a compound noun of file and work.
More about this interesting word on my Knife Anatomy page at this link. Some antiquities scholars call the process and result of filework “a worked back ,” or ” backwork ,” referring to the back of the knife blade, but this is not specific, accurate, or clear, as filework may extend throughout the tang, butt, inside of the handle and even in liners, spacers and accessory parts of modern knives.
It seems that filework is uncommon prior to the 19th century, however, the Italians and the Scotts have a history of fileworking blades dating back to the s. Filework has evolved into a highly decorative art form, sometimes even accented with engraving and precious metal inlays, differential anodizing, finishing, and bluing.
