Most of the or more shark species in WA are capable of injuring humans, however an overwhelming majority of them are not aggressive under most circumstances. White, bull and tiger sharks are considered the most significant threat. Are sharks coming closer to shore because their normal food is scarce? Expand Larger sharks tend to be very mobile and can travel large distances in search of prey. As there are no obstacles to them coming close to shore, there is always a small chance that people may encounter sharks. The results, released in April , show that white sharks can exhibit rapid, extensive movements around the Western Australian coast with some seasonality in their abundance off the metropolitan coast. As their movements are mostly uncoordinated, this limits general predictions of when human encounters with this species could be likely. Expand A ‘rogue’ shark is an unsubstantiated theory. Is shark cage tourism allowed in Western Australia? Expand No, there is a State ban on shark tourism ventures which involve the use of a safety cage for protecting swimmers or divers from sharks.

Expand A drum line is a fishing apparatus that consists of a baited hook suspended from buoys, anchored to the ocean floor. Baited drum lines were deployed about 1km offshore of a number of popular Perth metropolitan and South West beaches between January and April The program did not continue beyond the trial. Where were the selected beaches for drum line placement? Equipment was then transferred to between Yallingup and Lefthanders, with a greater emphasis on surfing locations until 30 April Is the number of sharks increasing?
Increased media attention, surveillance and more people using the water have contributed to the impression that shark numbers have risen. What cannot be disputed is that there have been unprecedented numbers of shark fatalities, with eleven fatalities since Expand The Department of Fisheries has completed a review of white shark population numbers.
The study attempted to reconstruct the levels of annual catch of white sharks since , and to combine this data with life-history information to develop a series of population trajectories. Our guide, Jasmin takes us and the other adventurers a father and daughter over to the training course. She explains all the bits and bobs on our harnesses and how each part works. What if I forget how to hook on? What if I freak out and get stuck. Some of the trees are impressively tall. My son, a real keen-bean, zooms ahead to course one to start.
As the course number goes up, so do the age limitations and difficulty. We inch across tightropes, suspension bridges and fly along mini zip lines. The boy is all over it and in fact, I hold him back kids aged must be supervised at all times. By the time we advance to the family and zip lines courses, we are high-rope professionals or so I thought. Treetops courses for the brave We truck along to the more advanced courses getting warmer with every climb up a ladder and each shimmy across a tightrope.
The team at Forest Adventures have made it fun and interesting by adding props like a snowboard to ride on one zip line and on another challenge, a bicycle to ride across a bridge — 15 metres above the ground. When I arrive at the tall tree, my son is already half way up the rope ladder.
Reports This is long overdue due to my laziness and my tendency to procrastinate. Anyway, went to Busselton jetty last thursday with a three of my mates, two of which were inexperienced, and it was a really good night. When we got there at about 11pm, the water was firing with skippies. So we just dropped our rods and caught a few just sized skippies, with a couple ones close to 30cm.
Could see that she was rather awkward with her rod. However, for a first timer, she caught 2 skippies and a rather large blue manna on hook!

Welcoming staff, small site, clean but quality of fittings average in bathroom I would have given it 4 star if we haven’t had issues with 2 family 4 kids next to us make extraordinary noise at night until 3 am. We were surprised that there were no one on site monitoring noise level and ask these sort of people to be quiet, couldn’t sleep that night. Other facilities are good, I felt the site was bit small.
We had hot water all the time but bathroom fittings needs upgrade. Average site, but no bed dramas apart from that noise issue.

I was trying to get in his GQ a few weeks ago, my knee wasn’t cooperating at all, I am awaiting decision of knee replacement at the ‘young’ age of 42 or clean out once a year till I can have knee replacement. I was trying to get in, laughing my head off, my son who was no help at all, was laughing hard too, laughing is the only way to get through the daily pain of a dicky knee. This bloke walked up and said “How’s Broome? How long are in Perth for? So we had a bit of chat, about the GQ being from Broome, not us, that we would like to go one day.
He asked if I need a leg up, fearing that my knee would not be appreciative of his kind offer. I manage to climb in. Though the son did say if I didn’t hurry up and put my leg in, he was driving off, with the offending leg hanging out. When ever we go out in his car, we get people walking up, generally the grey nomads, asking how life in Broome is, talking about James Price Point and so forth. Where are we off to next.
